LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The quarterly meeting of the Ilangitikei Licensing Comittee was held at being present: Messrs. J. Logan HFout, S. M. i(Chairman), G. A. Gamman, F. Purnejil, F. R. H. Brice, S. Bcban, and G. Bray. Mr. Percy Coyle (Mr. Ongley) applied for a wholesaleMicense at Taihape. Counsel addressed the Bench and stated-that Taihape. with a population of over two thousand people, had only two public-houses. whereas Mangawoka; with a much smaller population, ha'd one hotel and a wholesale license, and Hunterville also had two hotels and a wholesale license. The applicant, who was also licensee of the hotel at Ohlngaiti, intended starting business as a merchant at Taihape, and had made arrangements to dispose of his business at Ohingaiti if this license was granted. The committee retired am? discussed the application, and on resuming the chairman announced that the committee did not favour increasing licenses in Taihape, and the applicaton was therefore refused.
