IRISH AFFAIRS.
RIOTING AT LISBURN. TOWN PARTIALLY DESTROYED. Received 9 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 24. A large part of Lisburn, near Belfast, wa s burned down. Owing to the spread of incendiary fires including business premises owned by local Unionists, a large number of women workers were unable to work. Nationalist women in Lisburn were required to sign a declaration they were not Sinn Feiners. and were loyal to King George before they were allowed to go into the factories, and all declined.
IRISH CONSTABULARY RESIGNATIONS. Received 9 a.m. LONDON. Aug. 24. A party of Irish Constabulary intbe Dublin Depot refused to handle arms, saying that they did not wish, to be used as a military body to put down the political opinion 'of the people. They were told that the matter would be inquired into, but the Constabulary took off their uniforms, donned civilian clothes and left the barracks.
HUNGER STRIKING EX-MAYOR. Received 9 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 24. Dr Mannix, after visiting the Lord Mayor 'of Cork in Brixton Prison stated that McSweeney was very mucb prostrated; but all arguments to induce him to take food failed.
