“CONCHY” TO BUDDIST.
{ ENGLISHMAN’S INTENDED CAREER. ' A Sheffield man named Arnold Malabar has just been initiated in Ceylon as a Buddhist novice. There are a very few instances in history of Englishmen having so cm- ; braced tills religion, and it is well i known that even in this case the Chingalesc Buddhists endeavoured to dissuade Malabar from taking the stop, as the life of u Badhist monk is by no means an easy one. Malabar, whose name will now be Malicda Sanipera, intends to spend I three years in Ceylon in order to study ~ali and Cingalese, after which ho will
return to England with a view to spreading Budiiist doctrines.
Malabar is said to have been a conscientious objector during the war, and has been twice imprisoned: for refusing to- perforin military duty.
