A HUGE PROFIT.
Comment upon the huge profits, which apparently were possible in the Home timber trades under the Government control during the war, was made by Lord Sands in the Court of Session at Edinburgh in disposing of a case which raised a question) of breach, of contract in connection with the purchase of wool. “The statement of this claim, said the judge, “gives food for reflection. A profit of £47,500 upon a £IO,OOO contract. takes one’s breath away—at all events, one’s pre-war breath. “If such profits were possible, I make no reflection upon those who made them. No doubt, as was natural, they bought as cheaply as they could, and they sold their goods for the prices they could obtain from the purchasers but it. is certainly amazing if, under what professed to be a syste mof Government control, such things were possible.”
