LAND FOR SOLDIERS.

The following areas of land are available for selection by ballot by dischai-ged soldiers Taranak'.. —Twenty-seven sections, Parihaka Settlement, exempt from rent for one year and two years. Twelve sections, Taitama and Ratapiko Settlement;.?. Auckland. —Seven sections,. Pou-a-Kani Blcek (Taupo district), 1397 acres to 2572 acres at less than £1 per acre. Four sections Hurukai S.D., and twenty-one sections in Ongurue S.D., mostly bush land, at about £2 per acre. Four sections National endow rment in Raglan, Opotiki, and Ohinemuri Counties. Four sections Tauranga County, Katikati S.D. Plans may be seen at the office of the Taihapc and District Returned Soldiers' Association after 3 p.m. each day.

HOUDINI'S LATEST TRICK. 'Houdini, the handcuff king, performs a n.ew feat, which he calls the "Needle and Cotton Trick." First he puts 11 needles in his mouth, then one was pushed through his cheek. He then swallowed another dozen needles, and after that a piece of cotton, knotted at one end, the other end he kept in his hand. When he brought, the cotton out the 24 needles were threaded thereon. This is done in London.
