o STARTLING STATEMENTS IN LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON. July 30. The Statutes Revision Committee reported the Marriage Amendment Bill wit’ll minor amendments. Sir F. Bell moved that it be referred back. The reason for doing so was that, evidence laid before the committoe suggested that one denomination in the country declared pubMcly by official documents that marriages contracted and performed according to the law of the land were invalid. It was further stated that the parries were required to go through a second form of marriage and that at this second marriage they wore described n s bachelor and spinster. He said, as a member of the- Government, that if this were found to be the pracfce in New Zealand and that the children of the existing marriage lawfully celebrated were bastardised either directly or by inference it would rest upon Fire Government to see that the ‘-hate of thincrs did not continue. He made this statement mibliely so that those concerned aright come before comnv'ttee and state their side of the case. The Bill was referred back.

Mr I/oyd George refused to reply to an allegation in the House of Common c that lie had planned a Franc o-BWtish'-GrCTman military alliance egainst the Bolsheviks. Mothers! protect your little ones from colds and coughs. Give them NAZOL on sugar. Sprinkle baby's pillow. Safe and pleasant. 4
