AGENTS v. PETROL
On the Recreation Ground yesterday, the Agents reps met the Petrol reps, in a return challenge match. In view of the object for which the match was played and a charge made for admission, the attendance was rather disappointing, and the soldiers’ memorial fund did not benefit to any great extent. The game was very willing in the first spell, and Petrol secured the first score when J. Ormond scored a good try. The Petrol reps, had the advantage of the game in the first spell, but at half-time the scores were equal, Maher scoring a try for Agents. lii the second spell Petrol tired badly, and only a few of their players were able to keep pace with the'game. The Agents had the best of the second half throughout and added two more tries to their score through the agency of C. Murphy and M. McLaughlan. Connell also got over, hut it was doubtful if he scored, and no try was allowed. Mr Sep. Eeid was referee.

• THE POWNALL TROPHY. The Pownall Trophy, of which Rangi-t-.kei arc the first holders, is to bo played for under the same conditons as the Ranfurly Shield, and if the matches can be conveniently arranged there is nothing to prevent a team from challenging twice in the one season. If Rangitikei still hold the trophy when the Taihape reps, arc ready to again pin- for it, they will have to fight ha;.l to retain the trophy, ns the Tarim po team will bo a> much better one than the team which played last Saturday. The Taihape team will probably challenge the holders at a later date when the match will be played at Marion if Rangitikei still hold the trophy.
