OVERSEAS TRAVEL.
NEXT SEASON'S PBOSPECTS.
HEAVY BOOKINGS EXPECTED.
While the past season has been one of the busiest experienced in; Auckland fof overseas travel, it is com sidexed by the officers of Messrs T* Cook and Sons' local agency that next: year will see just as great, if not &' greater, exodus of New Zealanders fori lands overseas. At present passenger lists to London are not heavy, but ali ready a number of bookings have been made for vessels 'leaving in February* The recent heavy increase in farea is having a noticeable effect on booki ing, many of those who under the pre-< vious rates would have taken firsts class tickets travelling second, and others who would have gone in the seconid-class contenting • themselves with third-class accommodation. Com sequently the booking in the two latter classes is likely to be exceptionally heavy. Before the war a firstclass! return ticket to England \ia Suez cost £132; the price is now £303. A second-class retu" ticket by the some route, which could formerly be obtained for £76, now costs £216. Via Panama, the charge is not quite so heavy, although the price has increased from £lls for a first-class return: ticket to £2IS, and for a second-class from £66 to £l4B.
It is expected that many New Zealanders and Australians will make the journey to France and England next year to visit the battlefields and locate the" graves of fallen relatives.
