Sherlock Holmes is the most popular hero of detective fiction‘ and drama and in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fascinating story “The Valley of Fear” the great detective is seen at his best. The fascinating story has been cleverly transferred to the screen, with H, A. Saintsbury, the prominent English actor in the part for which he was famous on the stage——Sherlock Holmes. Mr’ Saintshury was the original Holmes in the Well-known drama. “S'h.erlock Holmes.” Holmes is investigating a mm-«ler mystery and guickly reaches a start ling decision——when a page out of the past is unfolded putting a different complexion on the whole situation. A story of a crime of ten years before is told-or rather a startling series of crimes‘, committed in a mining town in America by a secretysociety “The Scowers”——and the defeat of the society by a Pinkerton detective The crime in England ten years later an echo of the “ScoWers”——-it is a crime of revenge and Holmes unearths a mystery and creates a. surprise indeed. that is not realised till the last few? feet ot the picture.
