(From Our Own Correspondent.) Our social evenings are very unfortunate this season, as every night so far has: been wet, preventing many from turning out, who had any distance to come. on" Friday night ‘twenty-six players tur_ne'd -oht. Mrs Taylor won‘ the ladies’ prize, Mrs McCorkindale the booby; Messrs Fenning and Johns ‘tied in the gents, and in the play ‘off Mr Johns was victorious‘. Mr Ashton secured the booby prize. The weather here this last week or {two has been very cold and showery, and’ on Sunday morning the hills around had a fair amount of snow on, but none laying on the low land. Luckily all stock in this district is in good condition, and able to stand a certain amount of it. The assistant teacher at our school has had a. very trying time this last month, having been left on her own to manage over 60 children, the Education Board removing Mr Gorasbury, and mot able to send us another teach'er to take his place; but I believe one is coming along to take charge on the first June.
