FOOTBALL.
(BY “ONLOOKER.’f)
The football scribe to one of the Wanganui papers has the‘ following to say:——“lf they adopt the oller of the Wanganui Union to‘ participate in their insurance scheme the Subunions will probably find themselves on a good_Wick'et at the expense or the parent body. So far as can be seen, the Waifoa Sub-Union will .'be the only one likely to join in the scheme. The Ruapehu, Taihape, and Rangitikei Sub-Unions may prefer to work on their own.” If the Suthunions do gainany advantage at the expense of the parent body, it will be rather a unique experience. A match was played at Bulls on Saturday, in ideal Weather,‘ between Max-ton and Bulls, the latter winning by 9to 8, after a splendid game_ A feature of the match was the play of Haines, the Bulls half, who is un« doubtedly the best halt-back seen in Rangitikei for many Sesl's'Ohs,
Rata seniors met Hunterville seniors on the former’s ground on Saturday, and after a strenuous ‘game Rafa won by 5 to 3. A practice football match was played on the Oval on Saturday afternoon between teams picked from the Huias and Pirates, the latter winning after a good game by 6 to nil. As was only to be expected so early in the season the players: ifere rather “green;," but that there are some very promising players coming on admits of no ques~ tion.
It is almosfi ‘certain that one junior team at least will represent Taihape at the football 7-aside tournainent to be held at Palmerston North on June 3rd. There is some doubt as to whether a senior team will travel, {but the juniors virill have a strong team to uphold the honour of this district.
