PRISON ROMANCE.
An interesting romance ,which had its beginning within the Walls 01-‘ a Drison, has just ended in marriage.
‘While making her rounds as a prison visitor in Sing Sing Gaol, New York, Miss Mary Faix-child, now head mistress of the elementary school at Forest Hills, 2:. model village sulburb of New York, fell in love with a convict Who, through her efforts, was liberated on ticket-of-lave.
The former convict, who is now her husband, is Henry Hoppe, who was-. once :1 confectioner, and was sentenced in 1915 to three years’ imprisonment on a number of charges, including burglary and the illegal carrying of weapons.
3’ After Miss Fairchild had met
:Hoppe several times in prison she begcame convinced that he was repent-
ant and honestly desired to become a good citizen. She set to Work, and after several months, induced the governor of New York State to pardon 'Hoppe. He had then served two :years of his sentence. I But on his release he was immediately rearrested by the police on‘ the =old charge :of burglary. Miss. Fairlchild. appeared in court and again !pleaded for him. She told the judge [that shelhad prorriised Hoppe that she [would marry hini. The judge therelupon discharged the prisoner under. suspended sentence.
