THE SIMS-DANIELS QUARREL.
I have heard so many erroneous reasons suggested for the quarrell between Mr Daniels, the U.S. Naval Secretary, and Admiral Sims that it seems desirable to state the actual facts, says “Clnbnlan’-’ in the ‘‘Pall Mall Gazette.” The dispute arose out of the distribution of war honours I'e--commended by Mr Daniels. Among the recipients of tlle Distinguished Service Medal——a much-valued decoration——was Lieut.-Commander D. W. Bagley, Who was in command~of the Jacob Jones when that destroyer was to-npedoed and sunk by a. U-boat. Admiral Sims took: exception to this, on the ground that it was had policy to decorate officers who lost their ships, and he mentioned it as a coincidence that Commander Bagley happened to be Mr Daniel’s brother-in-law_ The Senate Committee which investigated the matter has just issued a majority report which upholds Admiral Sim’s contention.
