WELLINGTON, May 7.
Glorious Weather favoured the Rugby fiootball match betwen the New Zealnd Service team and the 1919 Wellington reps. played at the Athletic Park in the presence of the Prince and some 10,000 spectators.Owing to his having another engagement,at Petone, the Pri'n"E:'e was unable to stay for more‘ than twenty minutes, but in that time he saw some interesting footballf The match was? not the bestfeimibition «of the game that has -been seen at Athletic Park, but it was not without many inter» esting phases. Although Wellington were defeated by 23 to 8, they were leading by a narrow margin at half time. “At that stage it looked as if honours would be fairly even atthe finish, lbut towards the ‘middle of the second spelltthe home team semed. to slacken off in their efforts and ‘the’ consequence was they were. Wholly outclassed; The Work of the Service _team’s excellent set of forwards also told its tale, and this largely account—ed~f,or'Wellington’s defeat. If anything Wellingtdn’s back Were a -nip-t pier bunch than their ioppone'lf€s,. but the tackling of the Service men proved very sure. Tries for the Service were made by g..Moffitt (two tries), Storey (one), Belliss (three), West (one). O}’Brien converted one. For Wellington one try each was scored by Barker and Calcinai.
