The dairy farmers hr the Te Awamutu and,_ Thames Valley districts" have issued their “’l3latfornl” regarding the proposed forinaition of a dairy farmers’ union, as against the N.Z. }:‘armers’ Union at present constituted. The mzurifesto states that the object of forming the union is toidget the best possible prices for dairy ipro~ dune, eo ensure saf.isfactory distribution of dairy products on the world’s. market, to efl"ec’r comprehensive shipping facilities, and to work together for the general benefit of the industry All suppliers are to be asked to join the union.
It is proposc-‘d to elect representatives from the several districts interested to immediately go to VVelli=ngton. and demand from the Government an open market for -butterfat. Federation is suggested with ithe wool, meat and crop branches of proclueel'.< in connection with the present Farmers’ Union-_for the ‘purpose of obtaining cheaper freights for manures, grass seeds, etc. . _A.signifieant claim is made in conelusion as follows:—“That we, as dairy farniers. demand that the Government take over the oil-fields at Taranaki‘, now held by A'meriea=n trusts, or else force the corporations to open the oil-fields and supply New'Zealan(l with benzine at a reasonable price.” ‘ It is also suggested that a laboratory be established at Hamilton for the purpose of insuring an up-to—clate system of herd-testing, soil testing, and altogether CL t'r?sti:ng organisation indepenglerfl of butter ‘factories. There is considerable comment in the district over the manifesto.
