.\ country schoolmaster was charged with ill-treating a boy of eleven by cutting one of his fingers with a knife. The injury was inflicted during a lesson about lizards. The child having said he would like to see a lizardis tan cut off, the feacher in evidence said he scratched the boy’s fingers thinking that would impress upon his mind that he should not be ci-uel to animals. Magistrate Ma.unsell, in giving judgment, said the cut was more than a.scr.atch, buf not a, substantial injury, Defendant was not justifiedin using‘ a. sharp‘ instrument, ancl lfis discl~etion'<‘liadJ'n‘ot been widely used, but it would be straining the language of the Act to say the child -had:"‘.be_en: i1l:_t1-eated; The in-. formation waisidismissed. ’
