It is uuderstooid, [the pr-oposaTs were submitted to the men in the following 1”orm:—F “Do you authorise the executive to accept the proposals as contained in Justice Str‘mgen’s report, or as an altérnitfie decline to accept -the incr€a‘l’§3“offered and authorise the executive to call a strike in ordei-"ft-‘ ‘eTli’or?e"'6ur demands.”
A number of men say they are opposed to both proposals, ‘and suggest that a third issue should have been added, as they think the way is still‘ open for further negotiations. Meanwhile attention is drawn to the fact that the Railway Department will on next pay day include in each man’s wages on salary the bonus recommended by Justice Stringer dating from January Ist last. It is stated the younger and more militant mem« bers of the ser‘\‘ri.ce have intimated their intention of refusing to accept the bonus, but whether may will carry ‘out their threat when the extra pay ‘is offered them remains to be seen.
