WELLINGTON, March 9. .-\t the conference between miners‘ delegates and coal owners the Government made an‘ important offer to the State miners, which has now ‘been submitted in detail to the State Min-i ers’ Union for decision. It, is Hug-l gested that a Board of Managamentl for t.he State Mines be set up, COll-1 sisting of the Minister of Mines (who: will be chairman) and the Under-Sec-| retary of the Mines Department, with a c-.omm'e.l-cial man to be aDpoinfod BY‘ the Governnient. and a. reDr9S€‘lltatiV9 of the miners who shall be appoirffed I by ballot every three years». The clect~ I ed ‘member is to receive two guinea.»-1 xi day when absent from work on the! business of the BO:11‘d, \VhiCh shall! meet monthly. ~ The Government's scheme indicates that. the proposed board of manage~§ ment, if constituted, should he asked,-1 to arrange as quickly as possible for! the erection of a sufficient number of‘ houses for the miners.
