DROP IN BIRTH RATE. The monthly absl:l'act of stmiistics compiled by the Acting—Governmen=l Statistician shows that M, December 3151: the Dominion population was 1,1(i~},405, I‘epreSe.nting an increase on the year of 56,035, or 5.36 per cent. this is the largest percentage for the Comparative period (ten years) covered by the abstract. "The population e.onlpl'ised 589,908 males and 575,500 t'emales. Figlll‘e.< sliowing; the marriage boom \\'.el'e not available at the time of compilation. but the birtli rate showed another fall, being 21.55 per 1000 population again-st 23..4~L last year. This mpresmits an actual full of 1.8 on 1918 and 4.14 on 1917. I Deaths numbered 10,807. and the ‘natural increase of the population xvns 133.393.
