THE WORST NOW OYER. WELLINGTON, this day. The sugar shortage, has reached a stage in Wellington -which has led our largest confectionery manufacturing concerns in the city to suspend operations in some departments. Other manufacturers are facing a similar position. Mr Massey said, last night, the matter was one for the Board of Trade to deal with. He hoped tho worst phase of the shortage was over. The Sugar Refining Company's work at Auckland was working at full capacity, and producing' over 200 tons daily. Board of Trade officers now in Auckland were endeavouring to make arrangements for distribution to the best advantage of all concerned.
