PROHIBITION IN SAMOA.
AN INTERESTING PROTEST.
LONDON, ov. 3.
The Press Association has received the following message by wireless from Apia, signed Croudace (chairman): “A large and representative public meeting of British, Allied and neutral citizens unanimously passed the following resolutions, which have been handed to the Administrator: (1)_ This’ meeting wishes to emphatically protest against the high—handed action of the authorities in establishing Prohibition _in this tol‘l‘itQl'y“b.y‘ military proclamation. We ‘claim that if Prohibition is necessary here, we, the residents, are the right’ ones to decide the question, and should have been consulted, whereas to use the powerful machinery of militarism (impartially obeyed during the war, but which, new that twelve months have elapserl is intolerable), has raised intense indignation and distrust among us, and we urgently insist that such a despotic and utterly uncalled for measure be withdrawn immediately. (2) That ‘a petition be signed and present."-2:1 to the Administrator with a request Lliat he forward it to the proper autho:'iti.es in New Zealand. (3) ‘That -.4, copy of the petition be forwarded to the (‘.Ol- - Oifice, through the High Cor.-i~ missioner of of the Western P:rcilio.”
The message adds that the DC'tiT.i()D, which is being eagerly signed, will forwarded ‘by mail.
