MR POOLE'S RETIREMENT.

GIFTS FROM; THE OPPOSITION.

Theloccasion was taken to—night_ by members of the O,pposit'ion to Ill:lko"plesentations to ‘C. H. Poole (Analgland West) and_Ml's Poole, and to express “their regret the former’s announcement of his i‘etil'elnent from poli--tics. ’l‘he.pricsentation was made in the Opposition Whip ’s room. Sir Joseph VVal':d_, in making the presentation, expressed the ,regret of the members of the party that Mr Poole should be severing his connection with it :aft‘er (his [long asspeiation, both in the House and out of it. He then presented Mrs Pools with a dressing case and ‘Mr Poole with a case of brushes and a set of razors. Mr Poole, in acknowledging the‘ gifts, said that it was his private affairs-‘ which necessitated his retirement from the political arena.‘ He had received a, very advantageous ofler"fl-om America, and felt impelled to close with it. Speeches eulogistie of Mr Pools and his services to the Party were madeby a number of members. i
