GOLF NOTES.
Once more George Duncan is anxious to challenge the world. This time it is an international foursome, Scotland V. England. He has chosen , Alex. Herd as hispartner, and suggests I-I. Varden and T. ‘H. Taylor‘ as opponents. A contest of this kind would create enormous‘ int.erest,"especially in View of Taylor’s recent statement that “Scottish golf is no good.” Taylor will probably live to regret the assertion, Since publisliingit he has been (lC‘ff£ltC(l in all his -matches. by Seiotsnien, \and ,probably fine 'alrea(_dy repents having made it. At any rate, a match as Duncan suggests would give Taylor and those who thting with him an opportunity of demonstrating‘ the claim made in such positive and uncompromising terms. Scotsmen deeply resent T»a.ylor’s utterance, and are only too anxious to put it to the proof Duncan, who has his supporter a peer of the realm, is willing to put up any sum named for the match, which is causing wide-spread interest in the .Old Country.
