Union was aflirmed by Mr D. G. Gordon, and OPPOSGJ by Mr A. R. Munro, both speakers acquitting themselves earnest. ly and well. Dr.. 'MciDial‘mid rendered considerable service to the case against Union, While the chief supporters of Union after Mr Gordon were the Rev. Mr Hocking, and Mr C. E. Darvill. With the exception of one. or two speeches, which evidenced an absence of seriousness, the debate was on :9. higher plane than might have been expected. Amongst other speakers. were Rev. P. H. Hall, Mr Nuttall, Mr Bennett, Mr Clements, all except Mr Bennett. being opposed to Union. The Rev. J, C. Loan wsas chairnian, and by judicious advice secured for himself a fairly easy time in controlling the debate. The meeting was a. marked success, and a good collection helped to establish the new League on a sure footing.
