TAIHAPE ATHLETIC CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Athletic lClub was held last night, there being ‘present: MeSsl'sC_ L. Dymock (chair), ‘Arrowsmith, P. E. Wakeman, Mortland, Neagle, Marlow, Wrightson, Ryan, T. fshute, and Bray. Apologies were received from Messrs W. and D. J. McLennan, Powell, Kelsall. M. and ‘IE_ McLaughlan. . Mr Dymock, in opening the meeting, !said the club had been practically ldormant during the war period. The war and the epidemic struck the community. This accounted for nothing {having been done of late years. Mr Arrowsmith said the time had [come when the Club should have an incorporated existence. In the early da.ys the Taihape function on- New Year's Day had been one of the greatest events in the North Island, and -he could see no reason why this should not be revived. They could expect a greater measure of support in the future than in the past. But he stressed the importance of having the yclub incorporated, and not revert to the slip-shod methods of the past. It would not cost a great deal, and he was sure any legal {firm in the town would do the necessary work willingIf-’ and gratuitously. He accordingly moved that the Taihapc Athletic Club be incorporated under the Incorporat—‘ yed Societies’ Act, and that ilzé-. necos—: Fsary steps to'tha.t‘ end be at once] :ta.ken. ' __ I The motion was carried unanimous-I ly, and Messrs Arrowsmith, W. Mc—l Lennan; and Ryan were appointed a sub—committee to draft rules, etc_, and submit to a general meeting. The election of Officers resulted as follows:——Patron, Mr R. W. Smith; President, Mr W. McLennan; VicePresidents, Messrs Arrowsmith, Dymock, Wrightson, Wakeman, Bray, T. V. Morrin; hon. treasurer, Mr D. Neagle; joint secretaries, Messrs Ryan and Marlo-W; auditor, Mr C. L. Dymock_ The following committee was elected:-—Me’ssrs Mortland, E. Me . Laughlan, Powell, Somerville, S. Reid, Quirk, Howns, Dowling, H. O’Callag-I han, Kelsall, Rev. Father Connolly,! Rev. W. F. Stent. Mullro Hintz, Fulton. Lawson, Bradley, D. MeLennan,‘ and Dunbar. A Programme Committee is -to be set up by, the General Committee.

A member present said that not only‘ should the sports side of the annual outing haveu attention, but facilities should be provided on the grounds for the comfort and convenience of Wo“.le]l and children_ ' Seats should be available, and hot water and milk inrovided. This opinion was unanimously endorsed. n

The chairman said the Club had lost 9. good sport and a. faithful worker in the death of the late J. A. Champion, and he suggested that a motion of regret and condolence should be recorded on the minutes. This was done in silence.

The member’s ticket was fixed at 5/, to admit member, his wife arid family under 14 years. Each member of the Club was constituted a canvasser for the purpose of obtaining members and subscripticins. It was stated there was a. balance of £IOO with accrued interest to the credit of the Club at the P.O. Savings Bank_ .

The question of holding a Kzoncort on the night of the sports, at which prizes and trophies won during the day (Wild be presented, found favour with ;ZlCse present, and the matter will be considered by the committee. Mr A. L. Arrowsmith kindly donated a gold medal or trophy for a points prize; Mr G. Bray offered a gold medal for a. prize for a district race; Mr Wrighvtson donated a trophy to the value of £2 2/, and Messrs Wakeman Bros. donated £lO 10/.

This being all the business, an enthusiastic meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
