REIGN OF TERROR ON OCEAN LINER. .

“There has been a reign of terror on the Karamea all the way from London to Auckland,” said Chief Detective McMahon when outlining a case in which ~,thl'ee from the vessel were charged in the Police Court with having embezzled twenty electric globes, worth, £6, the property of the Shaw Savill and Albion Company. “"I‘lll'ollgh—out the entire voyage,” said the chief detedtive, itheso men have been breaking lamps and boiler gauges, thus 3threatening the safety of the ship, throwing things overboard, and behaving generally in a most outrageous fashion. The captain asked them if they had any complaints. but they refn,~:e(l to give any information, and eonstfituted them. solves a secret s‘.oei~?ty. They became so unbea.l‘:lble and macle themselves so disliked that the captain no longer deg,il'es their presence on the ship.
The accused de..r:lincd to make any explanaftion from the box. “Sabotage such as ’-this must 'be stopped,” said the Magistrate. “Each man will be ordered to pay £2 for the damage he has done, and, partly as a punishment, and partly as a warning to weeks’ improsinment with hard ]aboul‘_”
