DEATH OF AN OLD MAN.
l- An old Ill3ll,‘llanled Charles cam‘Ipion, employed by 311- Robert Aitche-' ison, of lKoekc, was found dead on the road between Koekc and Mataroa, an !Tuesday, by Messrs Broderick and Garmonsway, and the body was ;-akeu gto Mr Cleaver’s residence. It appears deceased left with a horse and trap to go to Mataroa station, and -is ‘Messrs Broderick and Garmonsway ‘were going along the road they saw ‘the horse and trap unattendped. Priol‘cc=eding along the read, they saw delceased lying across the road, dead. It [is presumed oeceased was walking belhind the trap, when he had a seizure, J and fell down and"expil'ed. There was _ no evidence of the wheels of the trap having gone over the body. Deceased ‘(had worked in this district; for the .-last fifteen years, and was Well lknown. _ % ' conomsws INQUEST. ' An inquest was held yesterday by [the Coroner, _Mr .I_ P. Aldridge on the ldeceased, Charles Campion. " Robert Aitchison said he was a [farmer residing at Koeke. He knew deceased, who was working for him_ He was last seen alive at about 10 a.m. on Monday, Bth inst. Deceased left witness’ place driving a horse and trap, to catch the 3 o’clock train at Mataroa. He was 77 years’ of age, ‘and had worked about this district for-’ some 15 years. Witness had known [deceased about eight or ten years, and was a. man of sober habits, and had Ino estate so far as witness knew. During the last month or six weeks when _working about the house he had been troubled with fits of qiddiness, and complained of feeling unwell at times. Robert Broderick, a farmer at‘ ,Koeke, had known deceased foranumfiber of years. Sometime on Tuesday ,night, between 7 and 8, witness med ldeeeased’s trap“, and went along the [road for ‘about a mile, Where they ~found the body of deceased. He _was-: ‘lying on the bread of his back, straight "across the road_ He .was' dead. The trap apparently had not goneover him. There were only a few sundries in the trap. Mr J_ Garmonsway was with me and helped to rejmove the body to Mr Cleavers. Theposition of the body and deceased’e clothes gave me the impression that he had been Walking behind the trap. and had fallen down. I John Garn~..c-nsway, a farmer, living at Koeke gave corroborative evidence. ‘Witness last saw deceased alive when [he was driving to"fmvn on Monday. j The ‘verdict was death from natural. ‘causes.
