DUNEDIN, Aug. 29. The will of the late Mr Peter Smea‘ton, formerly of Sargood, _Son, and Ewan, who died’ this week, provides for bequests of £IOOO and all net. income therefrom, for ten years, for the benefit of’New Zealand soidiers engaged in the recent war; £2OO to annuities and the Town Planning Society; £I6OO to Otago University (payable on the death! of a/legatee), theincome to be used for a resea.rch ‘scholarship in science an additional provisional bequest to the university will, it is hoped, bring the total sum‘ to £SOOO for scientific research. The sum of £IOOO is to be invested and the income paid ‘to the Dunedin Art Gallery -Society for fthe purchase. of oil and Water-colour paintings.
