BRITAIN'S CRIPPLED SOLDIERS
According to the Evening News, the 1i:~.“-i“. of crippled men in the British Army is little short of appalling. The _\*«;-ws gives the following figures on casualties and illnesses:—-Twenty thous:l.nd soldiers lost. a. limb by amputation, 128,000 sufl:'ered injuries to :-1 leg or an arm, nolt however necessitating 'a.mputation;‘ 36,000 suffered from neurastlienia; 60,000 sufl"ered from chest complaints, including tuberculosis; 39,000 were tl'eate(l for rheumatism; 54,000 suffereded from heart disease; 10,000 snf‘fere(l. from deafness. It is also pointed out that only 289 men (lied from l'_\'pl10l.(l and similar fevers, due to the inoculation method, while 11,690 cases rcsult-ed fatally in the French army before inoculation was begun.
