A RUNAWAY MILK LORRY.
‘WELLINGTON, August 1 On Saturday evening one of Wel lington’s municipal milk depa:~tmen:’s big motor lorries, loaded with empty cans, proceeding down Paekakairiki Hill road, got out of control and went over the bank. Three men were on board, and it seemed to them that they must be dashed to pieces, but the vehicle’s descent was stopped by a. stout telegraph pole, which stood the Strain. The next pole, however, snapped under the shock, cutting direct telegraphic conimunicution with the West Coast. messages having to be diverted through the Wairarapa until the wires Were reatlusted to—day by :1 special gang of lincsmen, who were rushed to the job. The men on the lorry were unlmrt, and the vehicle Was not. damaged. :
