TAIHAPE PUBLIC LIBRARY.

An enthusiastic, but small, meeting of citizens was held in the Council Chambers last evening, presided over by Mr Stent, to consider possible ways and means of making the circulating library attractive to townspeople. It was resolved to ask the Council to hand over the management to a committee to be appointed by subscribers. During the evening the Mayor and Cr. Fookes arrived, and expressed the opinion that the Council’ would be pleased to accede to the request, and bdth promised to give favourable consideration to the suggestion that the Council be asked to give the financial side a. boost by means of a subsidy. It is hoped to find ways and means of purchasing books and periodicals, and of opening the library on certain evenings for the convenience of subscribers. It is hoped the public will lend ‘their assistance by becoming subscribers, and thereby making the institution a credit to 'l‘.aihape.
