. ""*——-—<.___g——-——. BLOCKS IN THE NORTH. ll -—..._... I The early opening up of one or two. of’ the blocks of Landin North Auck. land was indicated at a ineeting of the ‘ Auckland Land Board last week, when I Valuations were approved for the, Remuera Estate, Bay of Islands, and the Takahuc-Whangape National Endowment Block, Mangonui County. The valuations will have to be subm.itt‘ed to .the Lands Department for approval before the lands are thrown open to selection. ~ V THE TAKAHUE BLOCK. In the Takahue-Whangape block there are 23 sections, ranging in area from 143 acres to 514. The altitude of the land is from 100 to 1400 feet. ‘Reporting on the block recently, the Auckland Star’s special representative stated."l_.e Takahuc-‘Whangape block consists of 6836 acres of bu-sll|l'and, whichl has been surveyed and divided on onei occasion, and is now under course of} re—subdivisi-on into 23 sections for the: purpose of soldier settlement, so that; the holdings, which range from 143} acres to 514, will average about 300} acres. The land lies from 100 ft tot 1400 ft above sea level. It \is an‘ airlve_gul'arly, .sh'aped block, the infest 3 northerly point being at Okahau, someil four miles south of Kaitaia, and the‘; southerly portion‘ running down by a} tail into Hokianga, which county actuzuély claims a few hundred acres of the block. On the’ west it is bounded} by the State Forest Reserve and Crown } land lying between -it and the present‘ liaitaia-Herekino road, and on the east and north-cast by the settled and fer-tp tile Takahue district, and the head of} the Victoria Valley. l The general contour of the land is, hilly to steep, the area consisting of} fnemgnrtcatei-...pgrtiofr of the Takahueli nran-g.o‘,. - ta.’ .- - I 1 ' The block is best reached from Kai- I taia or Takahue. From the Kaitaia-4, .Mang'onui road a. new road to Herc-j kind - l ing the block with Hcrekino and Kaitaia direct, and.,i‘s_v being pushedthrough '_rapidly.3 Aniotherroad is to i'ork':fro‘ln i this, roughly defining “me boundary,‘ and connecting with I the" Pareakawa road, and .a. further Toad bisects the b'lock,‘connccting the western boundmy road with Takahue. When these ‘ are completed, the settlement will be excellently served by roads giving access to the K‘-efitaia and Herekinof dairy factories, and with Hokianga and the port of Awanui. The distances for the removal of stock, other than to local saleyards, are Very great. Generally speaking, the block is wel_l Watered, summer and winter, and there is only one portion, on the east, where the dry season supply is at all doubtful. Most -of the e-state ‘lies well to the sun-, the northern portion giving a magnificent view of both seas"; The country is sandstone, and the soil is good and of fair depth. THE REMUERA ESTATE. The Remucra Estate, which» is ‘the westeitn portion of the Bay of Islands County, is an impl'ov_ed estate‘ taken over by the Government some inonths ago, and which, has since been subdivided. Details of the valuations are not yet availlable, butilas the land has been highly improved, and the soil is of -good quality, mostly volcanic, the price of the best of the sections will be somewhat high. The sections range in area. from about 80 acres upwards. The land is eminently suimbk» for <l&il'ying, and, lying hem-"con Kaikohc and Ohaeawai, is Served by the dairy factory at the latter place.
