'9 A rather sensational occurrence» is teported from Nigeaha, says the Ekeltahuna Express. Mr and Mrs C. Hall yllast week Went to Wellington to meet Mrs Hall’s,brother, who was returning to the Dominion, and Miss Myrtle Hall was atuhome in charge of the house. One afternoon, just as Miss Hall was about to leave the house on her musicIlesson rounds, a swagger appeared and demanded a cup of tea. Miss Hall informed him that the fire was out, ‘but as the man insisted she consented to light the fire. The man then asked fitruculently if he could go inside, and was met‘ with a prompt refusal, Miss Hall, without; thought, stating that her {parents were away. "The man thererupong attempted‘tlo force his way into ithe house, but the door was slammed in his face. He then picked up a. tomaiiawk and attacked the door; Miss Hall rushed to the telephone, and just managed to indicate to the exchange rthat a man was breaking in——then ihere was silence. -T«“.ket.rlllzlrla immediately rang up Mr_Dowden, of Nireaha, _:who ran across to the house. The man {had disappeared, but h-e found Miss {Hall lying on the floor in a faint. and with the corner of. her apron alight. Thus ~'was averted what easily might have been 9. tragedy. The settlers and {police are searching the district for .''the man, but, so far, without success.
