(From Our Own Corresponden-t.) Since my last budget. of notes, the: Social Club has h-eld two very successful gatberings—-a euehre party ‘and an impromptu speech evening. The euchre parties of the Club are always a sucCess, and the last one held was no exception. Mr and Mrs Gr.’ Eng donated the prizes, the winnersbeing Mrs Arms _and‘l\lr _Bul'goyne, «-while‘ the booby’. prizes were iallotted to Miss Campbell and Mr Clinton, who for, three," consecutive evenings had "won firstnprizes. Despite the fact ‘that. it was a ‘wretched day, there was a fair sizedj congregation at the Methodist Church [on Sunday morning, when -the Rev. IVV. Hocking preached an. eloquent ser- M ‘men in keeping with the object or the i of the day—to render thanksgiving for lthe blessings of peace. ’ Ohutu, though only a small place, *does, not escape suffering from «incontveniences caused by the tires-irieted ' [train service, due, so the powers zhat } be would have us believe, to -.1 shortage of coal. We used to have 3. daily mail service, _but we have now to put up with a tri-Weekly service. And several employees of the Egmont Box Com: pany, whose homes "are in Taihapcg‘ and who used .-to travel to their homes by the 5 p.m. train, have now to find other means of reaching their homes. ‘ ‘ hack of coal, ’ ’ say the Government and manager for Railways. Yet last week, Mr, Editor, we Were yegaled with the sight of an engine, one truck, and a guard’s van steaming merrily past Ohutu. One wonders’ if when the “Bing Boys” arrive back‘fronl their little jaunt in Europe, they will be content to take three days to get to Wellington.’ Methinks noi, especially as the big “Bing ’ Boy” will be carrying that Wonderfuffl seal with “N_Z.” on it. that he picked up in a_ p:aWnhroker’g shdp in Paris, Vtosayi nothing of the pen‘thathe used to sign the Peace ‘TI-eaty with. Such precious relics as these carried by such important iiersonages, will demanfl a special trainand it *3 safe to say that snchatrain will be run coal, or no coal. The most urgently needed thing in New Zealand is as! Government capable of running the M country ’s aifairs.
