WORKERS’ HOMES.
. "“"‘ ‘W; (To the Editor) . Sir,—l warmly endorse your leader of last night re Houses for Workers, and trust that those in need of a house, who are not disqualified by the terms, will put in,an immediate application. “A worker getting four pounds per week will be able .to,pul‘chase’ his own up-to-date five-roomed house by paying interest and principal at the rate of _l6/ per week——that is, 6 I cent on total cost. of concrete structure. We urge workers to avail themselves of this opportunity, because we are convinced that nothing can, or’ will be offered that is more advantageous, and it is the most insane speculation to hold back waiting for better opportunities and terms.” . This is sound and timely advice, and those interested should show their appreciation by responding at once. The Council is working on the scheme, but cannot move as quickly as we would wish, for various reasons; beside, the first. four or five houses built will not be open to the public, as they will be requiredfor the Borough samployees. T If the Government. scheme is working ‘here before we are able to Commence, it V will be a good guide and assistance to us, in either following the plan initiated or improving on it, or adopting another. ‘ A keen response from those the idea is intended to "assist will show that the demand for dwellings is real and N,‘ urgent. - It seems strange that there is no public notification from the Department informing the people of the necessity of applying at. once, and that applications close on the 12th July. "Apparently we shall have to depend on your voluntary assistance to keep the. matter before.the people.—'l a‘m,‘étc.-', ' A. J. JOBLIN.
