MODERATOR'S SIGNIFICANT WORDS, PRETORIA, May 13. The Moderator of the Transvaal Dutch Church, in opening -'the "Synod, after severely criticising anti-Gierman legislation, said the church in the Fatherland was in a very disturbed state. The soul of the nation bad been stirred to its depths. A spirit of independence was reviving in the Afrikander people, who were called upon to fulfil an important task. In view of the powerful influence of the Dutch Church among • the Dutch-speaking population, the Moderator's utterances have considerable significance.
