FOOTBALL.

o NOTES BY ONLOOKER

The game on Saturday, between the Junior 'teams, was most interesting to spectators, and if the same standard of football is maintained throughout the season some good football should eventuate. For the College team the back division played excellent football at times, and the passing between tho half, five-eighths and threequarter lines frequently occasioned applause from the spectators. The forwards played well, and with a few practices would greatly improve their combination. Condition itold on the backs towards the end .of each spell and had the Pirates played up to that probably would have won the " game. The Pirates deserve credit for 'the good game they put up, their play being easily twice as good as on the previous Saturday, and should they continue to improve will be a hard team ito beat. Their play also at times brought forth applause from the onlookers. Bray played a good safe game at back; McClure and O'Reilly arc safe in "the three-quarter line. Foote requires more dash in the attack, though fairly safe in the defence, but could improve in taking ihc ball. McAuliffe played his usual sterling game. Leahy shows" improvement, and let the ball go better than in the game last Saturday. Henson at half, is good. The forwards as a pack played well, but they failed to get the ball out from the scrum clean; more practice in scrum work should help them. The play of feeding the half as played by the Collego boys in the line out would be worth while practising, as this tends to an open game and gives the backs a chance. Darvill and Kilkolly, are worthy of special mention for their play, being always on the ball. It is hoped to arrange a match between the College team, and the Mataroa Juniors for next Saturday.
