MINING IN NEfW ZEALAND.
THE GOVERNMENT’S POLICY.
WELLIGTON, May 6
The Minister for Mines was asked to-day if he could giv e particulars of the new policy regarding mining. He replied that ho could not go into details, but Cabinet had practically agreed to his proposals, and he was having legislation prepared for submissiou to Parliament next session. His. intention was to make such arrangements regarding resources as to ensure thorough testing of the Dominion’s mineral resources. It Avould be neces-
sary to have a measure of reorganisation, and a full staffing of experts for the Mines’ Department, in order that samples and proposals submitted might be reported upon more quickly than was possible at present.
