In the House of Commons, Mr Short announced five thousand alien enemies were now in Britain. Forty-one were released since the armistice 20,986 repatriated. Father Bernard Vaughan doubts the accuracy of the report that 350 priests at Naples voted for trie abolition of celibacy. There was no movement in the church in that direction The laity would not tolerate married clergy, which without the time honoured disciplinary practice of celibacy could not be at the beck and call of their people as now.
