PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
CHILDREN'S DAY.
A meeting of the committee for Children's Day was held on Friday night, there being present: Messrs Thurbton j (■chairman), WilsOni, Mo Laughlan, and Swindells (secretary).
It was resolved thait the scheme, as outlined by Mr Swindells be agreed to, which consisted of the crowning of a queen, four maids of honour. Peace, Justice and Britannia, attended by a guard of honour of sailors, soldiers, and Red Cross nurses (all juveniles);'the formation of the word "PEACE" of a large size, by 200 children, maypole, and Highland dancing. It was decided to ask Miss Bloomfield to undertake the training of the children for the maypole.
It was resolved to ask the Finance Committee for the sum of £l5O for Children's Day.
Nominations are to be called for queen, the position to be, filled by drawing on Monday 14th inst. Children only are eligible to nominate. Special prizes are to be awarded to the children for" the best fancy 'dress. - Three prizes are also to be awarded in each event on the programme, in cash or trophies, and prizes are to be given to the smaller children. The public axa% to be asked to donate foodstuffs for the children, to include a supply of milk. The route of the procession will be from the public school, round Huia street, to the "Times" office, along Main street to the Town Hall, thence along Kuku Street, Tui Street and Kokako Street to the Recreation Grounds. The band is to be asked to take part in the procession, and to render one or two items on the ground. Resolved that the following ladies, and gentlemen be ased to assist on Children's day: Mrs De Latour, Mrs Haydon, Miss Gordon, Messrs McLennau, Dymock, Monroe Dunbar, Bartosh, Hannigan, De Lacy, Faire, Percy.
PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN'S DAY.
Procession starts from public school ?:': II a.m. Crowning of the Queen" after arrival at grounds. Formation of the word "PEACE" by children. The following events for boys and girls will take place: 1000 Yards Chars'ionship, Relay Race (iteam of four), "Walking Race, 440 Yards race (handicap). Skipping (running), Maypole dancing, Sack Race, Potato Race, Egg ami Spoon Race, Long Jump, Cockfighting. Obstacle Race. Highland Dancing, Pillow Fight on Pole, ThreeLogged Race, Thread-the-Needle. Wheelbarrow Race.' Wrestling (horse and rider). Tufr-of-war. Treacle buneating competition. Physical Exercises, and races for the your.gor children.
