TAIHAPE GOLF CLUB.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEET««fc The annual meeting of the Taihape Golf Club was held last night, #ien there was only a moderate attendance. Mr. S. Powell occupied the chair % , Apologies were received from Messrs' Hesketh, Joblin, Bond, and O'Callaghan.

The secretary read the balancesheet and report on last year's operations. The report disclosed that the season 1918-1& was the most successful on record, as theoclub finished with a credit balance of £ll 7s 9d. No less than 19 ladies and 50 men paid their subscriptions during the year. Three returned soldiers —Messrs. M. MeLaughlan, J. Caithness, and T. Williams—were elected honorary members for one year, and Messrs. W. McCombie, R. O'Callaghan, and W. Brcmner country members. The amount received in subscriptions was £llO 17/, as against £lO7 11/, in 1918. The Club's financial position is quite satisfactory as the assets exceed liabilities by £6O 6s 3d. During tne year, owing to the liberality of Messrs, C O. Gibbs and H. Hesketh, the Club was able to build a shed for the ladies, which was much appreciated by them; Many competitions were held during the season, and owing to the generosity of many of the members in providing trophies, the Club made a profit of £lB 14/6, therefrom. All the competitions were keenly contested, and the chief results were:—Ladies' Championship Club trophv, winner Miss Spooner; runner-up Mrs Bradley. Senior Championship, J. Evans; run ner-up P. E. Wakeman. Junior Championship, Albert Evans; runner-up, A L Wilson. Bond Cup, winner Misa Gillette; Shergold Senior Cup, W. Shergold; Shergold Junior Cup, A. L. Wilson; Mortland Rose Bowl (outright), W. Shergold.

The Committee made the following recommendations: That the ladies' subscriptions be raised to 15/, that tho men's subscription be raised to £2 225/. every individual member of the club be asked to provide a Challenge Cup (to be called the Champion Challenge Cup) in order to perpetuate the memory of the late President, Mr. J. A. Champion; that a social be held on the evening of the opening day, when all prizes won last season be presented to 'the respective winners. In conclusion although the committee is unable to report that the links are in as good order as at this time last year it hopes that now the shadow of the great war has been lifted the coming season will iresult in all records being eclipsed. The report and balance sheet were adopted, members voicing appreciative remarks about the labours ,of the secretary (Mr P. E. Wakeman) to Wfrom no little credit for the satisfactory position of the club was due. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to Messrs. Gibbs and Hesketh for their efforts ,on behalf of the club, the votes to be recorded on the minutes. The chairman referred to the loss the club had sustained in the death of their late president, Mr J. A. Champion and moved that a letter of condolence be sent to his widow. The motion was carried, all present standing.

To perpetuate the memory of tho late president it was unanimously decided that a Champion Challenge Cup should be founded, a levy of 5/per member made, and a committee consisting of Messrs. Powell, Wakeman and Bray were set up to procure a Challenge Cup worthy of the occasion.

The opening day was fixed for May Ist, and the social will be held in

the evening^ The following officers were elected: P .tron, Mr. R. W. Smith, M.P.; President, Mr, H. Hesketh; Vice-Pre-sidents, Messrs. S. Powell and H. O'Callaghan; captain, Mr. Kelsall; secretary and treasurer, Mr. P. E. Wakeman; hon. aditor, Mr. C. L. Dymock. The following were elected as a committee: Mssrs. Bradley. Neagle, Bray, Mortland and Upchurch. The question of providing hot water facilities on the links was left ito the incoming committee, with a recommended [that the (same shoulld. be provided.

Mr. W. J. Munro, on behalf ,of himself and fellow "foot sloggers," desired to thank the owners of motor cars who had so frequently anS -courteously given the pedestrian golfers a lift to and from the links. :; A vote .of thanks* toJ the chair terrain ated the meeting.
