Forty thousand Nottinghamshire miners r struck, 'demanding (increased rates for work in abnormal places. It is probable the Coal Commission will present threo /separata (reports, ■and recommend the late rate advance of three shillings daily.
RAILWAY POSITION BETTER
LONDON, March 18
The railway companies'' new proposals go a long way towards a settlement, so Mr. Thomas informed them before going to Paris. The prospects of a settlement of the shaping trouble are hopeful. It is suggested that Lord Inchcape and Mr Hughes could settle the matter in ten minutes' conversation, but Lord Inchcape has gone to the Mediterranean for his health.
A NOTABLE MEASURE LONDON, March 18. In the House of Commons, the Transport Bill was read a second time without division. Mr Bonar L wasaid the Bill meant repudiation of the whole past economic policy, and represented the first big scheme of reconstruction. They must act quickly to avert disaster.
