A bowling match which is looked forward to with more than usual interest will take place on the local green next Monday. Four rinks from the Huntervillo Club will try conclusions with four rinks of Taihape players play commencing at 9.30 a.m. The visitors are at present holders of the Hum Cup, having wrested it from the Taihape Club a few weeks ago. Members’ wives and lady friends are requested to kindly provide afternoon tea. _
“It is an instance of how far capital will ga in order to ensure dividends,” stated Mr B. E. Murphy, Lecturer in Economies at the Victoria University, in an address at the Accountants’ Chambers in Wellington, after he bad stated that Chinese iamd coolies were ousting the British sailors in the .British mercantile marine. “It is absurd,” stated Mr Murphy, “that large numbers of British sailors should be hanging around British ports looking for work because they have been displaced by niggers and chows, who are cheaper. If the mercantile marine is to be the nursery of the British navy the position is as serious a.s it is absurd. This is only one of the sidlematters which is responsible for the industrial unrest now so evident.”
