BARTON'S CIRCUS O :• , The Barton’s commenced their Tai--hape season last night, when there was a good attendance of the public, who showed their hearty appreciation of the variops items presented. The contortionist act by little Toa Predo showed how the limbs -of one’s body can be twisted and turned- about with no apparent effort; chap received quite an ovation pt the coiVcTiF sion of his turn. The Fredo Bros,, in their famous tumbling violin act demonstrated their versatility, and gave the audience an item that would satisfy the most exacting, and for which they were loudly applauded. The double ladder act was a fine number by seven of the company. The various tableaux were very striking anS pretty. The two Deans in their one wire act did some extremely fine balancing, and went through some difficult movements with as much apparent ease as they would have had they been performing on the ground. The three button busters kept the audience in fits of laughter in their bar act. Besides doing clever acrobatic work the company seem to lay themselves out. to interpolate clean comedy, whenever possible, and this was never irksome or overdone. A steeplechase, the concluding item, in which some of the local John Gilpins took part, caused much merriment. The audience went away thoroughly pleased with the evening’s entertainment. To-night the melodrama, ‘•Ben Hur” with its sensational driving, will be produced in addition to the really high class circus programme.
