TAIHAPE TRADESMEN'S ASSOCIATION
o— — The annual meeting of the Taihape Tradesmen’s Association was held on Monday night, when the following members were present: Messrs. Gardner (chair), Murray, McLaughlan, Gifford, Mortland, iWard, Fookos, McCormick, Dashwood, and E. Loader (secretary). The President’s report and balance sheet were brought down, read, and adopted* A vote of thanks to the retiring committee was carried.
The following officers were elected for the coming.year: W. H. Fookes, chairman; E. Loader, secretary; J. Murray, treasurer; and the following were elected to the committee: Msssrs Gifford, McLaughlan, Ward, and Howens.
A prroposal was brought forward to alter the name to the “Taihape Retailers’ Association,” but this step \vas not favoured.
A hearty vote of appreciation was given to the chairman, Mr. Gardner on his the chair to the coming chairman. The first business dealt with was the alien question, and it was decided to approach the boroughs in the (Dominion to co-operate and request ■Parliament to bring forward legislation to deal with the number of aliens who were coming to the Dominion and going into business. It was decided that the Association interest themselves in the forthcoming borough election, and if possible get the ratepayers to give more attention to the matter; and the~ the Association, if psosible get business people in the town to accept nomination for the forthcoming council elections. ■ „
It was decided that the subscription for the forthcoming year be Iss. The balance sheet showed that the previous year started with t? balance of £4 7s 8d and the year ended with a balance of £3 8s 4d.
