Ernest Alexanderson, an American Inventor, has perfected a device making it possible for wireless telephony between Now York and New ZealaffS. The device assures perfect bearing for a distance of 12,000 miles.

APPRECIATION. A very pleasing function took place last night in the Three Stars Theatre, when the members of the Huia Girls’ Hockey Club tendered a complimentary social te Mr. and Mrs. Dunbar, as a measure of appreciation of the efforts made by them in advancing the club in coaching the members and in chaperoning them on various occasions. There was a large attendance, and the social passed off with a smoothness and vim characteristic of the Huia girls’ efforts. The floor was in splendid order, the music (provided by Mrs. Webb, Miss B. Bray, Miss Treadwell and Mr. Hamilton) was excellent, while the supper wffS all that could be desired. Dur, ing the evening JWr. ,W. J. Munro, on behalf of the members of the club, made a presentation of a handsome pocket-book to Mr. Dunbar, voicing the good wishes of the donors and appreciation of both Mr. and Mrs. Dunbar’s efforts on behalf of the club, and stating the premier position the club occupied at the end of the past season wfffc due in no small measure to their unit-' ed exertions. Mr, Dunbar, on behalf of his wife and himself, suitably responded. Mr. Munro also presented an entree dish to Miss Laurenson, a prominent member of the club, on the eve of her appro'aching marriage. Mr. Jones, on behalf of Miss Laurenson, briefly returned thanks. Dancing was then indulged in till the early hours of the morning.
