TAIHAPE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Committtee was held last night. Present: Mesdames De Latour and McCormick and Messrs. Joblin (chair), Burrell, and Lovell. An apology was received from Mr. Swindells.
Mr. Joblin said before proceeding with the business it was his melancholy duty to record the loss by doath of Mr J. A. Champion, one of the members of the committee. The deceased gentleman had for a considerable time been a valued member of the committee, and he had done excellent work. He moved, that this meeting express its very deep regret at the loss of their deputy chairman, Mr J. A. Champion, and place on record its delep appreciation cf his services, and that a.letter of condolence be sent to Mrs. Champion. It was reported that the shelter shed in. the school-grounds had been blown down, and that to re-erect it in its present condition was only a waste of money. It was decided to hold over the matter and endeavour to get a report from the Board's officer.
The Education Board wrote offering to supply grates free if the committee decided to burn coal instead of wood. It "was left in the hands of the secretary to make inquiries re purchasing firewood for the coming winter, and report. The Chairman stated the dry sweeping of school floors was prohibited for sanitary reasons. A donation of 20 sacks of sawdust had been made to the committee, and this would be mixed with the liquid disinfectant at present in the school. A subsidy would be paid by the Board on the donation of sawdust.
Mr. C. E. Masters was appointed auditor of the committee's accounts. The Education Department intimated that a supplementary allowance of £ls would be allowed for cleaning and disinfecting the school as a result of the 'epidemic. Messrs. Swindells and the secretary were appointed to sign cheques. e Mr. N. Denness was appointed to fill the vacancy on the committee caused by the death of Mr. J. A. Champion.
Mrs. McCormick and Mr. Joblin were appointed a visiting committee for the month.
The headmaster, Mr Thurston, was granted leave of absence to meet his son, who is returning invalided from England.
