The strong protest against reducing the daily mail service to a tri-weekly between Taumarunui and Maticre and Ohura districts has been effective. The Postmaster-General informs Mr. Jennings, M.P., that an alternate tri-week-ly service has been accepted. There is strong feeling in out districts that fair treatment is not being given them in regard to postal matter.
An employee of Waingawa frozen meat works has just had the experience of sleeping 60 hours at » stretch. As he did not turn' up at work investigation was made, and he •was found in bed sound asleep. All efforts to awaken him were futile, and a doctor was called in. He was removed to the Masterton Hospital .still asleep. Next day, he awakened in almost his normal condition.
The long-established coaching service between Waiouru and Tokaanu is being closed. The new route from the Main Trunk railway to Tokaanu is from Waimarino, and a motor service! fover this irccently constructed road has just been inaugurated. The distance, 44 miles, is the same as from Waiouru, but when a deviation at the back of Lake Eoto Ara has been formed the journey will be reduced to 30 miles.

It is hard to conceive a more unpleasant time than was experienced in Taihape last night.
