RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Council met on Saturday. Present: Messrs. Lethbridge (chairman) Brioe, Simp, pa, Brown, Pederscn, Doole, and G-ibbs, Leave of absence was granted to Crs. Duncan and O'Callaghan.
A communication was received from the Taihape Borough Council " with regard to vesting cohflre-l of reserve in Taihape in tlte Council' (for jthe purpose of watering travelling stock. —Received. From A. M. Ryan and M. Bell re certain iipecial rates in the late Upper Wangaehu Road District. — Resolved—(Cr. Pedersen Chairman,) That it be a (recommendation to the Wa-ng-anui Council., that the special rate in No. 14 special rating d*.dmct of the late Upper Wangaehu District be collected only from those lands from which no hypothecated funds had been received. It was Resolved (Cr. Doole —Chairman} —That th<i Government be asked to give subsidy of £1 for £1 . towards the metalling of the balance of the Otuarei Road and the Toe Road in the Erewhon Riding. Chairman, Cr. Doole) That the engineer prepare list of place' rrhere he considers roadmen's cottages should •be built also estimates and cost of men and supply a list of the cottaglk now erected, with rents, etc. (Cr. Pedersen —Chairman) That the Government be approached in regard To a subsidy of £1 for £1 toward :■ the metalling of the road in Ruanui Riding.
The Council's Committee will meet the representatives of the Wanganui Council on 12th February, re adjustment in the Ruanui Riding. (Chairman—Cr. Doole) —That this Council con ide v * fhat the proposal to study American methods of road ■making and machinery is a step in th,3 right direction, but it would like to see the matter taken up in a mere comprehensive cheme.
(Chairman —Cr. Doole). That notice be served on the Land B'oard under section 143 of The Land Act, 1908, "in regard to all arrears of unpiad rates on Crown sectioiVi'' The following notice of motion was given by Cr. F. Price: That owing to the merging of the Wangaehu Road Board into this County, thereby necessitating more road supervision, thi. Council considers the time has arrived when the boundaries of the road , upervision between that of the Engineer and the inspector should be revised and also the transfer of the Engineer's office from Hunterville to Taihape.
