WAR CASUALTIES. NEW ZEALAND'S TOTAL. WELLINGTON, Jan. 30. To the 6th of January this year the total of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces casualties was 57,849. Deaths numbered: Officers, 760; other, ranks 15,671. Missing: Officers other ranks, 28. Prisoners: Other ranks S2. Wounded: Officers, 1721; other ranks, 39,584.

COURT-MARTIAL OF CRAMPTON

The court-martial, to try Lieutenant Cramp ton in connection with matters pertaining to the Wanganui detention barracks will Bit at Wanganui on the 29th inst It is understood LieutenantColonel Colquhoun will preside. Associated with him will he Majors Hume, Makesey, Henty, Ashwith and Talbot, and Captain Smith, Captain P. E. be judge advocate. Eleven charges have been preferred against Crampton, "alleging ill-treatment and permitting unnecessary force to be used on soldiers.

REPATRIATION

PROTEST BY RETURNED SOL DIERS' ASSOCIATION.

WELLINGTON, January 20

Interviewed on the subject of repatriation, Mr B'atten, the president of the -Nov Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, said that before he agreed to act as district officer for Wellington, he consulted the local sub-committee of the Dominion Executive. The members were strongly in favour at hi? acceptance of the position. The sub-committee passed the following motion: "That this Executive sub-committee o? the N.Z. Returned Soldiers' Association, while disagreeing with the method of establishment and constitution of the Repatriation Department and the mcof director, realise the urgency and thod of appointment to the position importance of this work. The Association will therefore give its wholehearted support to the 'work of the Department. At the same lime, the Association lacks confidence in the Department as at present constituted and will make every endeavour to carry into effect the protests already recorded by the Returned Soldiers' Association and other bodies."
